Ford and Volkswagen have announced a “global alliance” that will see the two carmakers collaborate on a range of projects from commercial vehicles to potential new services.
The alliance will be run by a joint committee led by Ford chief executive Jim Hackett and his VW counterpart Herbert Diess, alongside senior executives from both companies. The carmakers will not take a stake in the other as part of the tie-up.
The two groups will seek to collaborate on developing electric vehicles, self-driving technology and new transport services. The carmakers were also “open to considering additional vehicle programmes in the future”, they said on Tuesday as they unveiled the partnership.
