Good morning from New York City, where everyone seems to be utterly obsessed with the biggest story in sport. I’m not talking about the World Cup, which barely seems to register here, but basketball.
The New York Knicks rounded off their NBA title win — the first in more than five decades — with a parade through the streets of downtown Manhattan on Thursday morning. As many as 2mn fans thronged the streets, and — for those of us trying to drive in from LaGuardia airport — it certainly felt like it. That’s the power of a one-team town (apologies to the Brooklyn Nets, a transplant in 2012 from New Jersey).
