A senior Wells Fargo banker has been allowed to leave China after authorities in the country prevented her from doing so for several months, according to people familiar with the matter.
Chenyue Mao, an Atlanta-based managing director at Wells Fargo and a US citizen, had travelled to China for work this summer but was unable to leave the country after being hit with an exit ban.
The measures against her came amid rising geopolitical tensions between the US and China, and followed on the heels of an exit ban on a US government employee who had travelled to China to see family.
