Macron urges French to save energy in face of Russian threat to gas supply

President warns in Bastille Day interview that Moscow is prepared to use energy as a ‘weapon’

French president Emmanuel Macron has called on businesses, government agencies and households to do more to save energy as France braces for Russia to cut off gas imports and the war in Ukraine drags on.

“We must prepare for a scenario where we have to manage completely without Russian gas . . . it is probable. We need a general mobilisation.”
