American but still ‘Asian enough’ to be attacked

Transracial adoptees look for a sense of belonging as they are targeted by racist hate in the US

“Dear Asian adoptee, I’m not sure about you but I’ve been feeling this overwhelming sense of confusion. As anti-Asian hate runs rampant, I can’t help but wonder what I’m supposed to be feeling. Sadness, anger, and hurt are all surging inside but it feels misplaced.”

Thus begins an open letter from 18-year-old Nepalese-American adoptee Binaka Norris to the 200,000-plus Asian Americans adopted by overwhelmingly white families in the US since the Korean war.
