Kim Jong Un cuts communication lines with South Korea

North Korea will cut all communications with South Korea in what experts say is the latest gamble by Kim Jong Un to pressure Washington over economic sanctions.

According to KCNA, North Korea’s state news agency, the inter-Korean communication line via which the two sides speak daily, as well as a separate hotline to the South Korean president, will be severed from midday on Tuesday.

“All the people of the DPRK have been angered by the treacherous and cunning behaviour of the South Korean authorities with whom we still have lots of accounts to settle,” the KCNA report said, referring to the country’s formal name, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.
