Trump and Kim pick up where they left off on nuclear weapons

Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un have begun their two-day summit in Hanoi, where the US president will try to persuade the North Korean leader to abandon his nuclear weapons.

Shortly after arriving at the Metropole Hotel in the Vietnamese capital the two men shook hands, smiled and exchanged greetings.

Asked if a political declaration ending the 1950-53 Korean war could be expected, Mr Trump said: “We’ll see.” He denied he had walked back from his demand for denuclearisation.
