Japan mulls ban on government purchases of Huawei, ZTE equipment

Japan is considering banning government ministries from buying equipment from China’s Huawei and ZTE, according to people familiar with the plan.

Discussion of the plan comes just a day after Canadian officials  confirmed that Meng Wanzhou, Huawei’s chief financial officer and its founder’s daughter, had been detained on Saturday after her extradition was sought by the United States.

While that arrest  sparked fears over the potential impact on China and rattled global financial markets, Shenzhen-based Huawei said it was not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms Meng and Chinese officials urged the US and Canada to immediately release her.
