US President Donald Trump has sought to draw a line under the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, announcing that “we may never know” all the facts of the case as he said the US would remain a “steadfast” partner of Saudi Arabia.
The president’s statement came days after US media reports indicated that the CIA had concluded that Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who has forged close ties with the White House, ordered the veteran journalist’s killing.
In an unusual statement on Tuesday, Mr Trump said US intelligence agencies would continue “to assess all information”, adding: “It could very well be that the Crown Prince had knowledge of this tragic event — maybe he did and maybe he didn’t!”
