The chips are down for semiconductor makers on Wednesday after a media report said the US Department of Justice is investigating whether China’s Huawei Technologies has violated sanctions related to Iran.
The report from the Wall Street Journal sent shares in Nvidia 3 per cent lower, while Advanced Micro Devices shed 3.4 per cent. Xilinx and Qualcomm were both down about 0.5 per cent apiece.
The wider Philadelphia Semiconductor index fell 0.7 per cent, marking its fifth straight day of decline. The index has dropped more than 9 per cent over the past week.
