Kim Jong Un publicly acknowledges prospect of US talks

North Korea has for the first time publicly acknowledged the prospect of talks with the US as momentum builds ahead of a summit between the leaders of the two countries.

Speaking at meeting of the Workers’ party of Korea, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un “set forth the strategic and tactical issues to be maintained” and “made a profound analysis and appraisal of the orientation of the development of the North-South [Korean] relations and the prospect of the [North Korea]-US dialogue,” the state-run Korean Central News Agency reported on Tuesday.

The reported comments are North Korea’s first mention of the potential summit with US President Donald Trump. Earlier reports announcing the historic meeting came from Chinese or South Korean sources.
