China outlines tariffs on $3bn of US imports in response to Trump move

Beijing has outlined plans to introduce reciprocal tariffs on US imports ranging from fruit to pork and steel in response to the Trump administration’s plans to impose a 25 per cent levy on up to $60bn in annual imports from China.

The Ministry of Commerce said on Friday it was planning tariffs on 128 products accounting for around $3bn in US imports. The plans include a 15 per cent tariff on US steel pipes, fresh fruit and wine and a 25 per cent tariff on pork and recycled aluminium.

The ministry said the US had seriously upset the normal order of international trade by using national security as the justification for imposing trade tariffs. China said it would take legal action under the World Trade Organisation framework.
