Donald Trump said on Wednesday that “additional major sanctions will be imposed on North Korea”, a day after the country claimed the successful launch of a new advanced ballistic missile that it said placed the entire US within range.
The tweet came after Mr Trump spoke with China’s president, Xi Jinping, about the launch. According to a White House readout of the call, Mr Trump “emphasized the need for China to use all available levers to convince North Korea to end its provocations and return to the path of denuclearization.” The readout made no mention of extra sanctions.
