Protests persist as Hong Kong goes back to work

Student-led street protests in Hong Kong showed little sign of concluding on Monday, with much of the city centre still closed to traffic despite dwindling numbers of demonstrators.

CY Leung, the territory’s embattled chief executive, announced that he planned to work from Government House – his residence – on Tuesday because of the ongoing blockage of his office by protesters.

However, thousands of civil servants were able to return to work after students opened the way for them to enter the main government offices in Admiralty district, which has been the focus of protests for more than a week.
