Global asset managers face rethinking their strategies for accessing the rapidly growing $572bn Chinese funds market after China’s main financial regulator signalled a loosening of regulation.
The China Securities Regulatory Commission has said for the first time that overseas managers would be able to acquire majority stakes in Chinese fund companies.
However, no timetable was given with the CSRC saying only that restrictions on foreign ownership would be gradually relaxed “when the time is right”.
