G7 "deeply concerned" over China Sea tensions

The G7 group of nations has said it is "deeply concerned" over tensions in the East and South China Sea, following a territorial row between China and Vietnam that prompted Vietnamese protesters to smash and loot Chinese factories.

The G7 said in a communiqué following the first session of its two day meeting:

We are deeply concerned by tensions in the East and South China Sea. We oppose any unilateral attempt by any party to assert its territorial or maritime claims through the use of intimidation, coercion or force. We call on all parties to clarify and pursue their territorial and maritime claims in accordance with international law.
