Chinese telecoms equipment maker Huawei has called on technology companies to join forces to fight government spying after reports that the US National Security Agency had breached the company’s internal servers.
The NSA tried to use Huawei to access networks sold to countries including Iran, Pakistan and Cuba, according to revelations first published by the New York Times and based on documents from former NSA contractor Edward Snowden.
The reports come as China and the US make greater use of cyber espionage and as US technology companies led by Facebook continue to criticise the US government’s surveillance practices.
