China has broken its silence over the case of Edward Snowden, the former intelligence contractor, to demand that the US explain the extensive internet surveillance he revealed.
“We believe the United States should pay attention to the international community’s concerns and demands and give the international community the necessary explanation,” the foreign ministry said Monday.
It also forcefully rejected as “nonsense” suspicions that Mr Snowden, who is hiding in Hong Kong as US authorities are preparing criminal charges against him, could have been spying for China.
