Storm clouds gather as Australia cuts rates

There is at least one part of the Australian economy that is not being buffeted by the persistent strength of the domestic currency at the moment – tourism.

Official data released yesterday showed international arrivals had grown faster than departures over a 12-month period for the first time in a decade thanks to a surge in visitors from China.

But for businesses and industries that do not benefit from wealthy overseas visitors, the persistently high Australian dollar is making life uncomfortable.
