The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose to a new record during early trading on Tuesday with the US market barometer finally surpassing its prior peak set in 2007 before the onset of the financial crisis.
The Dow, the oldest and most recognisable US market gauge, rose as much as 1.1 per cent to 14,286.37, eclipsing its October 2007 closing high of 14,164.53 and its intraday high of 14,166.97. That rise pushes the Dow index gains for this year to 8.9 per cent.
“It is certainly a milestone given the broad scepticism that exists among many investors regarding equities,” said Jack Ablin, chief investment officer at Harris Private Bank.
