The growth of the middle class in China has boosted profits for Intertek, the British company that tests products from toys to oil plants.
As the newly-rich become more prominent in emerging markets, sales of household items such as electronic gadgets and fridges increased, leading to more business for the FTSE 100 group.
Pre-tax profits increased by 19 per cent to £308.4m on a 17 per cent rise in sales to £2.54bn for the year to December 2012.
