Officials were attempting to discover how thieves broke into China’s Forbidden City, the heavily guarded former home of the country’s emperors, to steal seven jewel-encrusted gold art pieces.
It was the first theft in 20 years from the historic site, Feng Nai’en, a spokesman, said on Wednesday.
He added that security would be increased.
