N KOREA CURRENCY MOVE SPARKS ANGER

North Korea's bitter winter is a bad time for a political miscalculation. Rumours of shortages and increasing hunger have sparked rare public dissent.

The change to the new won, which carries a value of 1 per cent of that of the old won, was supposed to be completed at the weekend, but reports suggest the situation is still confused.

The disruption comes as Stephen Bosworth, the US special envoy to Pyongyang, met North Korean leaders yesterday on his first official visit.
