US WINS CHINA COPYRIGHT TUSSLE

Chinese limits on the sale of books, films and music from the US violate global commerce rules, the World Trade Organisation has ruled, handing the administration of President Barack Obama its first trade victory against Beijing.

The WTO's judges largely sided with a US complaint that China was making US companies sell copyright-protected products such as magazines, CDs and video games through state-run or state-approved businesses.

The judgment, handed down in June and made public only yesterday, also ruled against Chinese curbs on foreign producers of audiovisual goods that exempted domestic rivals.
