The British government renationalised the country's most prestigious railway line yesterday, as the recession continues to force Gordon Brown's ruling Labour party to return to its socialist roots.
Mr Brown has presided over the state takeover of large sections of the British banking system and yesterday added the London to Edinburgh main line to its portfolio of holdings.
National Express, the holder of the franchise to run the train service, was losing money and said it would walk away at the end of the year.
