At least six infants died and 300,000 fell ill after drinking milk powder contaminated by the industrial chemical melamine, used by suppliers to cloak the dilution of milk content.
Most families of melamine victims accepted compensation from a government-sponsored fund but some have struggled for months to bring lawsuits to ensure compensation for future medical monitoring of their children's health and deter food companies from condoning future adulteration.
“A small number of the infant victims' parents have not accepted the government-led compensation and have prepared pleas,” Shen Deyong, executive vice-president of the Supreme People's Court, told the official People's Daily. The court on Tuesday confirmed the report.
