The British public has developed a newfound appreciation for truck drivers and logistics workers after two years of supply shortages caused by Covid-19 and Brexit, a survey has found.
Respect for lorry drivers increased faster during the pandemic than for teachers and police as the public suffered toilet roll shortages and delays to online shopping, according to research commissioned by the UK Major Ports Group, a trade group for 40 large UK ports.
The findings suggest that the trials of Brexit and the global pandemic have sensitised the public to the value of the truckers and warehouse workers that make up the hidden backbone of an economy built on just-in-time supply networks.
