US vice-president JD Vance lashed out at the Israeli government over its criticism of Donald Trump’s preliminary agreement with Iran, warning Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s cabinet not to attack Washington.
Vance’s rebuke marks an escalation in tension between the two allies, which launched a war on Iran together but whose interests have since diverged. Netanyahu has faced widespread domestic backlash over Trump’s deal, which many in Israel consider a capitulation to Tehran.
“This does bother me,” Vance said on Thursday: “You’ve seen people within [Netanyahu’s] cabinet who have come out and attacked the deal, and in some ways very personally attacked the president of the United States.”
