Florida has sued OpenAI and its chief executive Sam Altman over a “litany of harms” it alleges the company’s chatbots have inflicted on Americans, amid a growing rebellion against the rapid rollout of AI tools.
The lawsuit filed on Monday — the first of its kind by a US state — claims the California-based AI lab has released products that it knows are addictive and unsafe, especially for children.
“We’re gonna make them pay for hurting our kids,” Florida’s attorney-general James Uthmeier, who brought the case, said following the filing. “I hope and expect other states will follow.”
