BYD has said its “flash charging” technology will allow it to compete head-on with producers’ combustion engine cars and take swaths of market share as the Chinese group expands in Europe.
BYD has developed rapid-charging technology that enables an electric vehicle to be charged in as little as five minutes, an advance it believes could boost its attempts to take on western manufacturers.
“Previously, we would never have a chance to penetrate parts of the market,” Stella Li, the group’s top international executive, told the FT Future of the Car Summit on Wednesday.
