The Pentagon will withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany amid a public spat between President Donald Trump and Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the Iran war.
Chief Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said on Friday that Pete Hegseth, the defence secretary, had “ordered the withdrawal of approximately 5,000 troops from Germany”.
“We expect the withdrawal to be completed over the next six to 12 months,” he added.
