The alleged shooter accused of opening fire at Saturday’s White House correspondents’ dinner has been charged with attempting to assassinate US President Donald Trump.
The Department of Justice also charged 31-year-old Cole Allen of California with discharging a firearm during a violent crime and transporting a firearm across states with the intent to commit a felony, according to a complaint unsealed on Monday.
Trump was rushed off the stage at the annual black-tie gala in Washington when Allen, who prosecutors said was armed with a shotgun, a handgun and at least three knives, rushed the doors to the ballroom where the event was taking place.
