A new £1bn push to convince more UK businesses to switch to electric trucks and vans will run to 2030, as the government works to strengthen energy security amid fuel price rises caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Companies will save up to £81,000 per lorry when they buy the heaviest zero-emission truck, which would amount to 40 per cent of the cost, under a programme to be announced on Wednesday.
An existing grant will continue to offer a discount of up to £5,000 for logistics companies to switch to electric vans, while the new scheme will include an additional £170mn of funding to help businesses and public authorities save up to £1mn when installing charging infrastructure.
