Luxury group Zegna elevates CFO as it plans fourth-generation succession

Family-controlled business moves to avoid problems that other fashion houses have faced

Italian luxury group Ermenegildo Zegna has appointed a new chief executive as the Zegna family readies a succession plan that will eventually lead to the fourth generation taking charge of the 115-year-old business.

Gianluca Tagliabue, chief financial officer and chief operating officer, will take over as chief executive from Gildo Zegna who will become executive chair. Zegna’s sons Angelo and Edoardo will be promoted to co-chief executives of the group’s main label Zegna.

The $2.5bn group, which listed in New York in 2021 but is still controlled by its founding family, also owns US fashion house Thom Browne and the fashion business of the Tom Ford brand.
