Chinese EV maker plans to use solid-state batteries in humanoid robots

Xpeng says use in such automatons will drive demand for the lighter and safer technology

Chinese electric-vehicle maker Xpeng plans to use solid-state batteries to power humanoid robots, extending the possible range of uses for an emerging technology that some carmakers believe could enhance car safety and efficiency.

The Guangzhou-based company said on Wednesday it would use solid-state batteries to reduce the weight of robots that it hoped to deploy by the end of 2026.

“I think humanoid robots are the most likely product to drive the mass production and adoption of all solid-state batteries, as they require greater safety than cars,” Xpeng chief executive He Xiaopeng told a company event.
