EU states to help each other move tanks across continent in case of war

European Commission works on military mobility proposals if Russia continues its aggression beyond Ukraine

The European Commission is working in tandem with national governments and Nato to co-ordinate the sharing of trucks, rail carriages and ferries that can carry tanks and heavy artillery across the continent in case of war.

One idea being floated is for national governments to be granted access to shared “military mobility” assets that would allow the movement of armies across the bloc if Russia continues on its warpath beyond Ukraine, according to three officials with knowledge of the plans.

The commission aims to put forward proposals next month on how to improve the bloc’s transport infrastructure and customs processes in order to cut the number of days it takes for an army to cross the EU.
