The UK is contacting tens of thousands of foreign students by text and email to warn them that they will be deported if they overstay their visas.
The Home Office’s new campaign came after what officials called an “alarming” rise in the number of international students who arrive legally on student visas but then claim asylum.
The messages will be sent to about 130,000 students and their families in the coming months, reminding them that if they have “no legal right to remain” in the UK then they cannot stay.
