France and Germany are seeking to defuse tensions that have erupted over their next-generation fighter jet project, in a test of a months-long effort to revive co-operation.

France’s President Emmanuel Macron and Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz will discuss how to resolve differences over the Future Combat Air System (FCAS) project when they meet in Berlin on Wednesday, ahead of a year-end deadline to agree a way forward on the next stage.
