HSBC renews search for chair after struggling to find suitable candidates

Europe’s largest lender is looking for more names amid slow progress in replacing Sir Mark Tucker

HSBC has launched a fresh search for its next chair, after the bank struggled to find enough suitable candidates for its final shortlist among more than 100 names originally considered for the role.

Europe’s largest lender has been forced to make a second sweep of candidates to replace Sir Mark Tucker in one of the most demanding jobs in banking, according to people familiar with the matter.

HSBC has looked at executives including Mario Greco, who leads Zurich Insurance Group; Goldman Sachs executives Kevin Sneader and Richard Gnodde; and Bruce Carnegie-Brown, who was until recently the chair of the Lloyd’s of London insurance market.
