EU probes Apple over App Store shutdown of Epic Games

Brussels seeks explanation from iPhone-maker after group behind ‘Fortnite’ has account terminated

Brussels is probing Apple’s move to kick Fortnite-maker Epic Games from its App Store, escalating a confrontation between the bloc’s regulators and the iPhone-maker as a landmark law targeting Big Tech takes effect.

The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, announced on Thursday it had “requested further explanations” from Apple over its decision to terminate the developer account of Epic Games.

The move removes the US games company’s ability to offer titles to Apple mobile users or proceed with launching a competing app store on its rival’s iOS mobile software in Europe.
