FirstFT: Janet Yellen’s olive branch to China

Janet Yellen yesterday warned that any effort to decouple the economies of the US and China would be “disastrous” for both countries and destabilising for the world.

In a major speech that called for a “constructive and fair” economic relationship between Washington and Beijing, Yellen said “we can find a way forward if China is also willing to play its part.”

Relations between the two powers have reached their worst state in decades after efforts to ease tensions were derailed two months ago when a suspected Chinese spy balloon flew over the US.
