Trump signals US and China have struck TikTok deal

US president says talks with Beijing have ‘gone very well’ and plans call with Xi this week

Donald Trump has signalled that Washington and Beijing have struck a deal on the future of TikTok’s American operations, adding that he would speak to Chinese President Xi Jinping later this week.

The US president posted on his Truth Social network that trade talks between the two sides in Spain had “gone very well” in a meeting that was still ongoing when he posted on Monday.

In an apparent reference to TikTok he wrote: “A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy.”
