Beijing Motor Show becomes latest event to be postponed over outbreak

The Beijing Motor Show, the biggest event in China’s automotive industry calendar, has been postponed as global car makers brace for the deepening fallout of a coronavirus outbreak in the world’s largest auto market.

Originally set the begin on April 21, the show announced in a post on social media that it would be delayed until an unspecified later date due to the Beijing city government putting in place the strictest possible measures to combat the public health crisis.

The event is usually where Chinese and global brands will launch new car models to jumpstart a year of sales in China after the seasonal lull of the lunar new year holiday, which has been extended across the country this year as part of efforts to fight the outbreak.
