Chinese ecommerce group Club Factory offers a lot of bargains to Indian consumers.
A smart watch that is compatible with devices from Samsung, Apple, Oppo and Vivo costs Rs678 (less than $10), while a pair of sneakers with the distinctive Nike swoosh will set a runner back just $5. No Indian maker of consumer goods can come close to the Hangzhou-based company’s prices.
More than 60 per cent of Club Factory’s 70m worldwide customers are in India, its founder Vincent Lou recently told the Indian press. The company’s success embodies the reasons why India’s trade deficit with China was more than $50bn last year.
