Retail sales growth in China slowed more than expected in November and to the lowest level in more than a decade and a half, official data showed on Friday.
Sales grew 8.1 per cent year on year, according to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, down half a percentage point from October’s level , and coming in below a median forecast of 8.8 per cent from economists polled by Reuters.
The reading marked the slowest pace of growth since May 2003 and joins a host of indicators pointing to a broad slowdown for China’s economy as the country grapples with the impact of a trade war with the US.
