Chinese exports grew 15.6 per cent in October in US dollar terms compared to a year earlier, customs data showed on Thursday, defying predictions that US tariffs would hit demand for Chinese-made goods.
The export performance marked an acceleration from the 12.2 per cent annual growth in the January-to-September period. Imports grew 21.4 per cent in in October compared to 20 per cent for the year through September.
Chinese exports to the US rose 13.2 per cent, but imports from the US fell by 1.8 per cent. That boosted China's monthly bilateral trade surplus to $32bn in October, up from an average of $25bn per month in the first nine months of the year.
