The Ford dealership in the Chinese city of Zhenjiang is almost empty.
“A couple of years ago at weekends we would have 50 or 60 customers. Now it’s more like 10,” says Dai Peng, a sales supervisor. “Quite a few people don’t dare to spend.”
A Buick forecourt next door is faring little better. “We have had fewer customers in the last few months. It’s the first time I’ve seen that situation since 2008,” says a salesman.
