China’s Didi suspends Hitch carpool service after second murder

Chinese ride-sharing company Didi Chuxing has suspended its Hitch carpooling service after the second murder of a female passenger this year.

A 20-year old woman in the coastal city of Wenzhou was raped and killed during a Hitch ride on Friday. Her death followed the murder of a flight attendant who was killed while using the service in May.

The case comes against the backdrop of a broader debate in China over corporate and government handling of personal data, as more services are contracted online.
