Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong to be sent back to jail

Hong Kong democracy activist Joshua Wong has been sentenced to a further three months in jail for his role in the Occupy protests, amid an intensifying crackdown on the opposition in the semi-autonomous Chinese territory.

Wong, who was out on bail after appealing against a six-month prison sentence for illegal assembly, was on Wednesday found guilty of contempt of court alongside 15 other activists for defying a court order to clear a protest site in Hong Kong’s Mong Kok district in 2014.

Raphael Wong, another prominent pro-democracy campaigner, was sentenced to four and a half months in prison, while 14 others received suspended sentences or fines.
