Three Chinese electronics firms are the worst performers in Greenpeace’s latest ranking of the environmental standings of the world’s biggest consumer electronics manufacturers.
Xiaomi, Vivo and Oppo feature at the bottom a table, released on Tuesday by the environmental organisation, which ranks 17 major tech firms across their use of energy, resources and chemicals. Greenpeace grades companies on their efforts across transparency, commitment, performance and advocacy in each of the three areas.
Samsung, the world’s largest smartphone maker, and US tech giant Amazon are the next poorest performers on the list, ranked 13th and 14th respectively. Netherlands-based social enterprise Fairphone tops the rankings, followed by Apple, Dell and HP.
